I'm 21 and have been speaking Portuguese (Brazilian) for my entire life because my family is from Brazil. I speak the dialect from Rio which is the dialect taught in schools there. I feel this is really helpful because both my English and Portuguese are really good and that helps when trying to explain certain aspects of the Portuguese language to native English speakers who are trying to learn.
Through skype so that the student can practice writing and speaking. I do this so that the students can feel more relaxed and so that no travel is required for lessons.

From teaching and tutoring various children I have learned each child has a different understanding of the same subject. I have adapted to help each child I have worked with the achieve their individual understanding and success. Recently, I have helped tutor students in photography classes and I found many teachers push their own style onto the students. I have taken a determined stand against this type of teaching. Each student has a voice and I am willing to hear it.

Having begun my first year of teaching in the fall of 2010, I realize that my heart is truly in education. In May of 2010 I received my bachelor degree, BS in Early Childhood Education. During my educational preparation at Franciscan University of Steubenville, I worked in the surrounding schools for over 200 hours. I was fortunate to observe and teach in diverse and special education classes. In addition, I also successfully student taught in a Title I reading classroom. Currently I am teaching preschool at an independent private school in Park City, Utah.
The most effective way to instruct students is through experience. Unless a student can take hold of a subject for himself and make it his own, he will never master the information. My past tutoring experience has prepared me well to show students that they can succeed in any subject. Students first have to be told that ... read more

My rigorous education has given me substantial insight into the "total package" needed to learn and succeed at a high level. The ability to learn material is critical, and I excel at teaching difficult concepts and skills to a range of different learning "types". However, the ability to organize, prioritize, and focus is equally critical to academic success, and my experience with a wide range of subjects from art and literature to science, social sciences, and business as well as a range of different personalities allows me to teach virtually any subject with a sympathetic understanding of how each individual's personality learns best. Some people learn well step-by-step, others learn better through self-experimentation. My familiarity with a range of learning styles allows me to find the best way to teach each individual.

I have not taught professionally, but I do have to help roommates and classmates with their work on a regular basis. I like to give them little tricks and tips for figuring out different kinds of problems. I don't like to just tell them how to do the problem. Instead I want them to figure it out on their own with my guidance and advice. I am patient but I also want the people I help to succeed.

I think patience and coaching are the most important tools in tutoring. Based on my experience, a rule or lesson is better retained if the student is vested in the answer by their own efforts. That being said, I like to give the tool, the hint, or the rule before I ever just give an answer: that way the student has an opportunity to learn the rule or remember the process for themselves while they figure out the answer. I would never, however, let a student stew in frustration if they could not come up with an answer on their own as that only puts up blockers and hinders learning.
While in law school, I assisted students enrolled in a summer program with residential advising and subject mentoring/tutoring. The program was offered through CLEO and hosted by Valparaiso with classes being taught by visiting professors from participating schools. The program launched students with ... read more

As I've studied International Studies, I have been able to recognize the differences existing from one human to the next. I have learned to appreciate the cultural background of each individual and have learned how to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries. While teaching English to students in Ukraine, I developed the skills necessary to encourage and promote success with each individual child. I learned to appreciate the level that they were at and also to believe in their potential to improve on a daily basis.
I believe that it is important, when teaching children, to let them know that you believe in them and are going to readily available to help them in any way you can. I am very patient and understanding as I see children struggle but also push them to succeed. It is important to me to have a positive and loving relationship with my students so that they know I a ... read more

During my education experience at Northern Arizona University, I learned early on that I have a passion for education and for teaching. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude at the top of my class. Through observing and student teaching experiences I learned techniques for teaching students science, English, math, reading, art and music. I also gained valuable grammatical skills through writing various research papers and essays during my studies.
I absolutely 100% believe that ALL children can learn! I believe that it is the teacher's responsibility to provide a healthy learning environment, one in which the student feels safe, secure, accepted and valued. I believe in self-fulfilling prophecies. If a child is encouraged to learn and knows that they can - they will. I feel very privileged to have had an opportunity to have created these types ... read more
