I began tutoring privately,as well as,for my school's learning center during the early 1990's. I have continued tutoring privately on and off for the past twenty years. I was a substitute teacher in California and Michigan during the 2000's. I also had my own high school level classroom in California for two school years. I was hired on an "Emergency Credential" because I had my BS but no teaching credential. I was laid off due to budget cuts in June of 2003. My comments on tutoring GED : Passed virtual testing.

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have tutored for the Sickle Cell Organization in 2001, helping students catch up numerous missed assignments. I tutor when the opportunity presents itself. GED is one of my top subjects!

I teach to the individual as well as to the group. In the classroom, I use the chalk/marker board, text and handout materials, and computers if available. Outside the classroom (libraries or other public meeting place, I bring my own instructional materials.

I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.

The one thing that I observed about the learning process, is that a person quickly grasps a concept if he/she is interested, or the topic is thoughtful and challenges the wit of a person and lastly, a person is very comfortable in learning through his/her friends. Nobody is stupid not to grasp a concept. It is the methodology, technique and feeling of comfort and interest, that is required. Hence I try to be affable and was more involved. A picturization or a real life example is more likely to fit in a person's mind. I used this technique and was very successful. With this regard, about 70% of my class scored 90% and above in their respective examinations.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began officially tutoring four years ago, starting up a private tutoring business. Through it, I have taught ages 5 through 55 in nearly all subjects, including mathematics, science, physics, ACT, and English. I also have tutored publicly at Oakland University for one year, where I earned my tutoring certification (level 1).
