My comments on tutoring GED : Passed virtual testing.

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.

I began tutoring privately,as well as,for my school's learning center during the early 1990's. I have continued tutoring privately on and off for the past twenty years. I was a substitute teacher in California and Michigan during the 2000's. I also had my own high school level classroom in California for two school years. I was hired on an "Emergency Credential" because I had my BS but no teaching credential. I was laid off due to budget cuts in June of 2003. GED is one of my top subjects!

I am a college graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science emphasis on Mathematics. I have been an educator most of my career. I began as a Substitute Teacher from Kindergarten to high school Physical Education you name it I taught it - this was not what I wanted to do at the time, but as I reminiscence now it was a pleasurable experience. Then I had the opportunity to teach computer basics to adults as well as K-12 children - now I felt like I was getting somewhere (I'm working in my field!). Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. The one thing that I observed about the learning process, is that a person quickly grasps a concept if he/she is interested, or the topic is thoughtful and challenges the wit of a person and lastly, a person is very comfortable in learning through his/her friends. Nobody is stupid not to grasp a concept. It is the methodology, technique and feeling of comfort and interest, that is required. Hence I try to be affable and was more involved. A picturization or a real life example is more likely to fit in a person's mind. I used this technique and was very successful. My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen.
