I love the give and take of working with high school students. I relish hearing fresh, young opinions and seeing how they decide what they believe in and why. My style entails showing a student the relevance of what he or she is doing. It is important for a child to know WHY what they are supposed to be learning is so important; they need to know how it will help them years from now after the classes are over. As a special education teacher, I am required to possess patience. I feel I have a great deal of patience, as I taught students with moderate to severe disabilities. My teaching style was one in which I developed creative ways to achieve specific life goals. I taught for the public school system in Memphis, TN for 17 years with 15 of those years in the same school. I have taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grade and for 3 years I taught a second/third split class of exceptional students. I quit teaching for a short period because I adopted 2 children overseas. However, I worked part-time as a computer instructor for preschoolers for about 2 years.
