Government is one of my top subjects! I graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science in 2010 and a Master of Public Administration in 2013. I have interned at the Utah State Legislature and worked on numerous campaigns. I also passed the AP Government test with a 4 when I was in high school.

I am a PhD student with 9 years of intensive experience in Mandarin Chinese. I have a minor in Asian studies, have lived in Asia for 1.5 years, and have won two Chinese speech competitions, both at the local and national levels. My greatest strength is speaking and pronunciation, but I can also help with reading and some writing. I am particularly good at explaining pronunciation to English speakers. I also have a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in public administration. I can tutor students learning about local, state, federal, or international governments. I have interned at the Utah State House of Representatives, and I have worked on several campaigns. I have also taken courses in public finance, organizational behavior, and statistics. My comments on tutoring Government : Running for office? Working with Government contracts? How does government work and how do the business, military and government interact? How do governments interact with one another? All important questions to be considered in the study of one government or many.

I have worked for Defense Contractors in the fields of Chemical and Biological Defense; and with experimental aircraft development across both military and civilian sectors. I have campained for candidates for local office and I have written for publication. Born and raised in West Africa I bring a love of other cultures and a true "world or global" view to history, politics and government.
I like to involve all the senses: hearing new material; experiencing the reality of an abstract concept and finally teaching or responding it back to show that the lesson has been absorbed at several levels. I like to have fun with teaching so the student will learn to love learning for his or her self.

Give Real life experience a try

Hands on approaches mixed with worldly knowledge, and a very patient style.
Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.

My comments on tutoring Government : I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Paralegal and have tutored and taught American Government.

My style is to build confidence in the student by teaching positive thought processes, study skills, learning techniques, and a strong work ethic. I assist students to believe in themselves and provide them with tools that give them a perspective.....that they can succeed with well directed effort. I recognize certain learning styles and work with the particular students learning style, e.g. such as a visual learner by providing visual aids.

A Little Bit About Me...

I was first introduced to accounting by owning my own business. Then I was hired by an engineering company to update their bookkeeping method from paper to computer. I became proficient in troubleshooting discrepancies and providing users with solutions. I interfaced with Federal and State taxing agencies, banks, and lending institutions requiring reports and/or payments. I then moved on to a Software Development company as a Product Manager of accounting software being developed for internet use by accountants. I trained and answered questions, wrote newsletters, prepared marketing materials and taught at seminars. I became a mentor and troubleshooter for the software users.
I love teaching. Currently I am working with adults in debt management and financial counseling. Money management is critical to the survival of a family and easily sabotaged by impulse spending. I most e ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style might be a bit unorthodox but it is something I have acquired from past teachers and tutors. I have not helped or tutored in a while but I believe I have an easy and simple approach to it. When it comes to physics and chemistry, the math can be learned over night, the concepts are most critical. You can't read a problem and interpret the question word for word. You have to find a way to relate it to real life and what you see everyday. A spinning disk becomes a truck tire, a sound device becomes a sub woofer. Things that you can relate to.
I have yet to complete my senior year of studies at the University but I will be done by Spring 2011. I am working towards my first Bachelors Degree, BS in Physics and will continue with school after until I get my MS in Chemical Engineering. Physics and Chemistry have always come easy to me and I know that because of this I can ... read more

Teaching is a personal act. Though I have enjoyed being in the classroom and seeing students develop as a community of learners, I have seen the most progress by addressing students' individual needs in a one-on-one situation. I see literature as one of most effective ways that people come to understand one another, the act of reading being a fundamentally unselfish and inquisitive act, an attempt to make sense of and relate to another person’s perspective. Writing is reading’s reciprocal act—a kind of reaching out in hopes of being understood, in adding somehow to the volumes of human perspectives. These are keys to democratic living. It is a great thrill for me to see these discoveries take place within the students I teach.
Having recently graduated with a master's degree in Literature and Writing, during which I also taught two college-level freshman writing courses, I am well ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children of most ages although I worked mainly with K, first, fourth and high school levels during my four years of experience. I believe everyone has the ability to reach their greatest potential with appropriate help and that sometimes extra assistance can be the difference between success and failure. I use rewards to help children feel better about what they have accomplished. I encourage the use of creativity in learning as long as it does not distract from the lesson that needs to be learned.
During my four years at Case Western Reserve University, I became aware of the needs of the city schools in the area and worked to help improve the situations in the schools. I worked with AmericaREADS, OhioREADS and other similar programs to help tutor children who were not able to get the individual attention they needed in the classroom. Because of my backgro ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with parents and children in facilitating their child's success. I believe in more of a kinesthetic approach and feel that children learn best 'hands-on.' I also feel that children and educators are crucial in the development of families and society. I am passionate about bettering the lives of children everywhere. I would love to assist a child on a one-on-one basis, being a tutor/mentor.
Ever since I was introduced to American Sign Language (ASL), I have been deeply fascinated in the language and its speakers. A year after my initial experience with ASL, I decided to create my own Bachelor's Degree at the University of Utah. I was able to design curriculum pertaining to my desired field of interest. The classes I took were mostly education related. I had several classes in education psychology, multi-cultural education, diversity and culture. My major emp ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am an extremely patient and positive teacher. I believe that the fundamental gift a teacher can give to their students is the gift of confidence. In my experience the primary obstacle to a student's progress is usually their own disbelief that they can do it. As a teacher, if you can persuade the student to overcome this doubt, the rest of the job simply requires patience and resilience.
I am an aspiring condensed matter physicist with extensive knowledge of chemistry and mathematics. I have experience in the industry working as a researcher and engineer which gave me a deep insight into applying the physical principles I learned in school. I have taught English as a second language in a formal setting and tutored numerous friends and colleagues in matters ranging from introductory physics to technical writing.

More About This Tutor...

My teaching style varies depending on the type of students I am teaching to because I believe that each student has a particular learning style that they find easier. I think that it is important to find the types of learning that each student finds easiest to understand, and tailor the course so that it works well with their particular learning abilities. This can easily be done in a classroom setting as well as an individual basis. In either case, while I am teaching I think that it is important to understand the topic we are on before moving to the next one. Slowing down to completely grasp each idea helps students to gain confidence in their learning ability, and actually helps the classroom or individual to progress much faster overall. Giving students a hope for their future ability to learn is one of the best things I can do for them.

Being a recent graduate of the University of Portland with a degree in International Business and Finance, I have already had the opportunity to use my skills by working in Financial Services in London. During my four years of study at the University of Portland, I spent two semesters in Salzburg, Austria and one semester in Perth, Australia. I have received top-tier education and plan to use this to my full potential, especially through teaching others. I have been very involved throughout my college years with tutoring (mainly Math and English) and continued tutoring Elementary level students part time while I was working in London.

A Little Bit About Me...

Having taught both gifted as well as students with learning disabilities, the one factor I found in common with all of them, is that in order to get them to learn you have to first get them engaged. Although I believe that traditional teaching methods certainly have their place, I am a firm believer in thinking outside of the box, and there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to education. I worked with a lot of students who did not necessarily do well in traditional classroom settings, who suddenly became active participants in their education once I was able to show them that the subject could hold an interest for them outside of the classroom. Anyone can follow a set curriculum, but it takes special care to bring a subject to life.

A Little Bit About Me...

I spent the last two years in Warsaw, Poland teaching English as a Foreign Language. My duties included planning and preparing daily lesson plans as well as semester course programs, traveling to different locations to teach school-aged children or adults in different environments, keeping records of material covered, preparing and administering exams at the end of each term, and completing reports about students at the end of the year. I have experience teaching children (ages 5 to about 15) and adults. The children I worked with ranged in ability from beginners (at most a few words of English) to upper-intermediate (teenagers with a fairly high level of understanding and communication). As to my education, I have a total of five years of college education, two at Highline and three at WSU. In that time I took a variety of classes, including creative writing, philosophy, psychology ... read more
