A Little Bit About Me...

I entered Virginia Tech as an honors math and physics student and graduated in three years with my BS in physics. At the moment I am trying to decide if I would like to go to grad school to continue on to something else, hopefully with math and physic as at least peripherally relevant. I have never taught a class and have tutored in only in a limited capacity. I however was apart of Virginia Tech's first Physics education class and program and found that I really actually enjoy teaching for teaching's sake. I hope that my limited experience won't scare people away; I am very passionate about these subjects and I would enjoy building up my experience and resume so that I can become an even better educator.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : Covering sine, cosine and tangent functions especially in problem-solving. Laws of sines and cosines. Use of radians and solving problems with TI-83 calculator. Cover periodic functions with varying amplitudes, and graphing all functions.

Eight years of tutoring math subjects for middle school and high school students. I have a keen interest in math and have always enjoyed helping students grasp the essence of a problem and its mathematical solution. I worked for many years in the corporate world, designing and programming mid-range and large scale computers.
I try to present each subject area as a sample problem and show EXACTLY how a solution is reached. Then I invite the student's participation with a view toward understanding the student's thinking. While accuracy in math is vital, understanding the steps involved is crucial.

I worked for as a teacher in a New York city high school for 10 years and as Assistant Principal of Mathematics for 15 years. I've now retired and moved to North Port. A Little Bit About Me...

I am probably not the typical college graduate. I entered the work force and gained more responsibility quickly. I eventually believed that in order to maintain my growth, I would need a degree and went to the University of Phoenix for a degree in Business Management. If there is one thing that I have learned it is that there is a lot of math used in the business world and this is a key skill for the workforce.
