A Little Bit About Me...

With a degree in Special Education and a Masters in Education I have learned about how children learn best. I have a Florida Teacher's License for teaching ESE (Exceptional Students Education), Spanish, Elementary Education, and other subjects. I taught in the Ocala public school system. I have terrific math skills and have taught all core courses to ESE students. I have helped older students prepare for their GED exam as well. Currently I teach Spanish online.
I believe with the right supports all children can learn. I have tutored students with special needs. My goal is to help the child build on their strengths and believe they can improve on their weaknesses. I am extremely flexible with my teaching style. I do not believe in the "one size fits all" approach that seems to be popular in text books and structured lesson plans. I believe it is important for a teacher to be able to shift gears mid lesson or adapt to each student as the need arises. Because I had to teach a wide range of ages in Prague, I had to change my style for almost every lesson I taught as I taught them. I believe ANY person can be taught given the proper tools. In terms of teaching style, I believe that different students require different teaching styles and techniques and I attempt to vary and utilize those based upon the specific needs of the student. For instance, I received a “D” in math in the second grade. I attribute my transformation to an "A" student at least partially to my third grade teacher in whose class my math grades improved dramatically and I jumped from the lowest to the highest reading group. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe I have a good mental connection with children. Teaching Math is not just about solving problems, using specific methods, equations & formulas that the student has to memorize, and then will forget after a couple days. It's about understanding the problems, it's about knowing where the problem is, and how to solve it using basic Math knowledge and some axioms, step by step, even reinventing the answer, if possible. Teaching Spanish is a lot different, its more methodical, I use some mnemonic "tricks" for the kids & adults to remember the important words & translations.
