I have taught Latin, Spanish, ESL, English, and history in a number of situations and locales. I am now teaching a few classes at a high school and middle school in Virginia Beach. I have taught on almost all levels from junior high school to graduate college classes. I have taught in five countries and have much experience in cross-cultural situations. I am very adept at teaching the basics and have published a textbook and many articles on teaching internationally and domestically. My teaching style is relaxed but challenging. I am very personable, patient,and flexible and gear my methodology to the needs and personality of the student.

I have always had a passion for teaching and helping to educate people. I have earned a BS in Business Administration and a MS in Accounting. Through my education and experience I have an extensive set of business and grammar skills. I have completed four years of Latin and enjoyed it. During high school I took AP History and Government and past the AP Exam. I enjoy studying for Test Prep and enjoy helping students achieve their goals. As a Latin teacher, I understand that Latin can often be a challenging and difficult language to learn. I have helped many students through these difficulties, and I appreciate the unique learning style of every student. I patiently work with each student according to his or her individual needs and help them to understand Latin rather than memorize it. I am an experienced Latin teacher with a BA in Classics from the University of Tennessee and an MA in Classics from the University of Virginia. I have also traveled extensively throughout the Mediterranean to study and excavate the physical remains of classical antiquity. My teaching career began at the University of Virginia. I have been a teacher in public schools, private schools and college . Retired in 2007 from Newport News Public Schools with 24 years experience. Now working part time in a Catholic school in the mornings during the school year.I am available in the summer and most afternoons during the school year. I don't mind tutoring on a part-time basis to get ready for a big test or just catch-up. I have lived in Spain for 9 months where I became fluent in Spanish. I also speak French.
