Hello my name is Felicia Reed and I just relocated to Charlotte, NC two weeks ago. Back home I was a a full time Sign Language Interpreter for 7 years. My experience with interpreting is from elementary age children all the way to college level students. About two years agai I started my own business called PaigeSigns2u. PaigeSigns2u is still in the beginning stages. Last year was my first year actually opening PaigeSigns2u and I used the church where I attended. I taught sign language to those who wanted to learn in 15 weeks. They had to order the book from Amazon themselves or I would order it and they paid me. In taking my classes I not only taught Americans sign Language but weekly I gave my students a fun fact about ASL. I educated them on the background and there was a lot of interaction involved. I also invited a Deaf friend of mine to come in and challenge my students. My course ... read more

My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I am fluent in sign language I learned in school and I also had the opportuinty to experience it hands on with a spouse who has been deaf since birth.

I am fluent in sign laguage, I am in school now, so I am not certified yet but I can teach what is and or has been taught to me. I also have a spouse that is deaf and has taught me alot as well so I have hands on experience as well. I eager to teach what I have learned , simple do to the fact that I am a strong believer that the world should show more interest in other languages than there own, I choose this because, watched how my spouse struggled to be understood when we went out. And I wanted to change the way people looked at his situation, he not disabled I look at him the way I look at the Hispanics that come here and are not understood, now there are more interpreters for them I want to do the same for our deaf community.

I have a natural approach teaching style to second language learning. Based on Krashen's research students need to be in an environment that is comforable where they feel they can take risks. I also believe, based on Gardner's research, that students have multiple intelligences. Based on that information I create differentiated lessons which incorporate hands-on activitites, music, etc. We all have the innate ability to learn a language. Second language learning is finding a way to transfer our knowledge we already have in our first language to our second language.
Coming from a family of teachers, I have been involved in the educational field all of my life. I began my educational career by working in morning and after school programs. Later I continued in education by working at the nationally accredited Early Childhood Research Center teaching 2-5 year olds. While completing my ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am dedicated to enthusiastic and dynamic teaching as a means of creating and nurturing a lifelong love of learning for students of all ages. I will use a wide variety of teaching aids and implementation strategies to engage and enlighten students in active learning. It is important to encourage youth and adults to express their talents in a moralistic and life-changing manner.
As an honors graduate from the University of South Florida, I grew up with a strong foundation in education. I spent my senior year of high school (when most people are occupied by senior year activities and proms) in college doing the Early Admissions Program. I graduated early from both high school and college with honors. During my college career, I held three internships - two of which were in education and the arts.

A Little Bit About Me...

The first thing that I try to do is get to know my client, mainly focusing on what they both like and dislike about school. Then we narrow it down even further to the subject that they are having problems in. I ask them what they think the problem is, find out what the school/teacher thinks the problem is (through review of their coursework including past homework and tests) and come up with a solution that will benefit the student, teacher, and parent to improve and fix the situation.
I recently relocated to the Huntersville area. I recently graduated from UNCW with a degreee in Psychology with a focus on children. Since middle school, working with children has been my passion. I realized my dream after some of my cousins came over to America from the war torn country of Liberia and were having a very hard time adjusting. I was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill's Master's Program for R ... read more

I have an excellent rapport with children and young adults and my knowledge is not limited to the area of foods and nutrition. I have excellent creative writing skills as well as a very strong knowledge of language, arts and sociology.

I truly enjoy working with children and young adults and have exceptional patience and empathy for young people. I am very free spirited and enjoy having fun while showing students the amazing world of learning.
