For the past 2 years since graduating from the University of Oregon I have been working full-time as Psychosocial Rehabilitator within the educational environment of various elementary and secondary schools. I currently manage a Therapeutic Learning Center focused on behavioral modification within the Special Education Department of a local high school. I have experience working with a group of students with disabilities such as: Autism, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Emotional Distressed, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Anger Management Issues. I love helping people who are learning in a field that I love. I chose to go into accounting while I was still in high school and I haven't had a regret yet. Initially, I like to find out the basics. I want to know their underlying assumptions in any part of academia, whether it's math or science. I have come to find that the very simplest of assumptions can mislead students. I like to start each problem with a new set of assumptions, or a "given", "find", and "solution" step-by-step process. This allows the student to see the problem as a whole and if there are problems, be able to identify where they are beginning whether it's in the initial assumption or in the solution step. I believe that teaching through lecture and hands-on activities is the most effective. A student that is capable of "teaching" the teacher a lesson and explaining the subject in their own words will have a greater understanding of the subject. When I teach and tutor I explain to the student the topic in my words, and then continue to ask for feedback until the student is capable of explaining the lesson in their own words. While attending law school, I spent 2 full academic years tutoring first year law students. I tutored property and constitutional law.
