A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience in sculpting, drawing, and painting. I have had professional lessons for 6 years and love teaching. Some of my favorite artists include Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, John Singer Sargent, Mark Rothko, Edvard Munch, and Kathe Kollwitz. I much more of an abstract artist but can definitely incorporate traditional, academic approaches. I have a heavy background in art history and also love to incorporate styles, movements, and artists from the past to influence the future.

I have worked with students of all ages and in all different subject areas. I have recently completed a semester of student teaching in a kindergarten class where I worked with the students on reading and writing skills. I have also worked with older students including an adult with learning disabilities. I have taken and passed seven AP tests: Biology, Calculus, Government, English, Physics, Economics, and Spanish. I can take these subjects and explain them in a comprehensible way by breaking them down to their basic concepts and building from there. As a recent graduate of BYU in Business Management (finance emphasis) I have been able to show excellence in my own school work. I have a major GPA of 3.85 (including many Accounting and Finance classes) as well as receiving a 4.0 while taking the “finance core” classes. Receiving a score of “5” on both the Calculus AB and BC tests during high school prepared me for college. Previous tutoring includes training new workers for employment positions (including a customer service representative and a restaurant position). While serving a 2-year mission for the LDS church I was able to train other missionaries. Much of this training included a personalized one-on-one teaching of how to approach, teach, and perform the necessary work.

I believe above all that patience is key in teaching people of all ages. If the teacher's listening and communication skills are focused on the individual(s) being taught, the learner will let the teacher know when they are grasping and/or absorbing new material as well as when they(the student) reach their capacity. I believe that in learning it's important to pace one's self, allow the mind time to digest new material, and in finding areas of learning that spark passion. Although I think periodic breaks are important, I also believe in advancing somewhat quickly(according to the students' abilities) and in using real-time examples and experience to facilitate and solidify learning.
