A Little Bit About Me...

In 2007 I had the wonderful opportunity of being one of two teachers at the Ann Arbor Academy's lower school for students with learning disabilities. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant for three years where I did extensive tutoring with one student over the course of the year. I substitute taught for two years where I learned a great deal about schools, particularly elementary schools and their various curriculum and expectations for grade levels. As well, I was a full time tutor and mentor for students at Pine Ridge Academy for a year while I lived in Burlington. I also teach the second grade religious school class at my temple. I am also a substitute teacher for a day school. I am currently in graduate school at Eastern Michigan University where I am pursuing a credential in k-12, emotional impairment and learning disabilities.

I feel that I have much aptitude and empathy for students’ successful endeavors in the classroom and I will do my part in making sure that my lessons will be integrated, promote creative thinking, and help the students develop decision- making skills. Social interaction will be used because it is an important aspect of life but individuality will be stressed so that the students learn to be leaders not followers. The concept of being proud of yourself and your beliefs but being aware of other peoples’ beliefs will be used to teach respect for each other and create positive self-esteem in each student.

A Little Bit About Me...

After years in the field of automotive repair, I took an old hobby and turned it into a career. I attended Oakland Community College where I came to understand my abilities, and at the suggestion of professors, went about to earn a BA in history combined with teaching certification in history, political science, and social studies. After completing the BA, I felt that I had merely opened the door to historical thought and process, and continued toward a master's degree. I spent a number of years as a substitute teacher, both long and short term, and with the completion of my MA, returned to Oakland Community College as history professor.
