A Little Bit About Me...

As a college student, I understand the difficulties and frustrations that arise from feeling ignorant at times. It is important to me, when I teach, that my student feels reassured when he or she does not understand something. First, I explain principles on a level that I initially judge to be adequate for the student. Then, if the student does not understand, I come up with a more simplified explanation, and continue in this fashion until the concept is grasped. I am a believer in the socratic method. As an Avid tutor we were taught to employ this method to help students understand concepts. I think that it is better to ask questions, and guide students' thinking rather than just giving them the answer, or telling them how to do a problem. Simply telling someone how to do something or giving them the answer prevents that person from figuring it out for his or herself.
