My teaching style is straight and to the point. My goal is to make the kids understand that the only thing holding them back is themselves. Hard work and a desire to learn will win every time. I LOVE the moment when the kids "get it", when they become confident in learning.
When I entered college I was immediately drawn to tutor my peers as needed. I worked with the single mom's program at IVC and also did job coaching for the City of Long Beach Disabled program. Once I graduated from college I had the opportunity to join the Boys & Girls Clubs, specifically designing educational and technology programs. I enjoyed tutoring about 50 youth a day. After having both tutored and taught in the classroom, I find tutoring to be more enjoyable. Since each student learns in a different way it is much easier to teach them one-on-one than a whole classroom full. I’ve always enjoyed watching their faces light up when they figure out a problem for the first time. I believe that tutoring is a very powerful tool because a lot of students need that extra push to succeed that they can’t get being in a classroom.
As a college student, I enjoyed helping others and began working in the tutoring center at Merced College. After I transferred to CSU Stanislaus, I worked both at the tutoring center and for a state program that placed me in one of the local high schools to work with groups of seniors with low math scores in order to help improve their SAT scores. I love working with teen-agers. I believe that every student learns in a unique way. As a business major, my approach to math is very different than most math majors. When I was a student I found that I needed to learn math in my own way, not simply follow the pattern of the teacher. This gives me the compassion for students who may need a little help. I encourage students to come to understand, and find solutions in their own way.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, from Southern CT State University. My undergrad work was strong in Math, and I minored in education and psychology. Many students are very apprehensive when they enter math classes because the concepts seem so foreign.
