After having both tutored and taught in the classroom, I find tutoring to be more enjoyable. Since each student learns in a different way it is much easier to teach them one-on-one than a whole classroom full. I’ve always enjoyed watching their faces light up when they figure out a problem for the first time. I believe that tutoring is a very powerful tool because a lot of students need that extra push to succeed that they can’t get being in a classroom.
As a college student, I enjoyed helping others and began working in the tutoring center at Merced College. I love working with teen-agers. I believe that every student learns in a unique way. As a business major, my approach to math is very different than most math majors. When I was a student I found that I needed to learn math in my own way, not simply follow the pattern of the teacher. This gives me the compassion for students who may need a little help.
