My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I believe my volunteer work with children and my advanced degree in psychology are advantageous for assisting individuals with ADD and ADHD.

I think teaching styles should differ based on the preferred learning style of the student. The teaching style should play on the strengths and preferences of that particular student. That being said, I foster a student-centered approach to learning. This approach encourages the student play an equal, active role in the learning process, rather than a passive role. A cooperative approach is important so the student can feel like he or she is an active and capable participant in learning the material. I also believe in leading by example and allowing the student to use me as a resource for reviewing their work.

When it comes to math I have found that most people who have trouble with math have simply missed some fundamental along the way. My teaching philosophy is first to have the knowledge for the subjects. Then, I think you need to understand the youth learning styles and to find out where they are with their knowledge and then begin from there.
