My comments on tutoring Chemistry : Took AP chemistry in high school and college chemistry and aced the classes.

I like students to understand how the material they are learning can and is being applied to everyday situations. So I often will talk about the big topics that have been covered explain why they are useful and then show the student how to perform various calculations or apply the nessecary logic to solve problems.
I am a Mechanical Engineering and Geology dual major with a 3.6 GPA. I understand mathematics very well and have tutored fellow students in math and physics, successfully for years. Chemistry tutor at local learning center. All of my students received a passing final grade ( so far)! I taught 19 courses of biology/anatomy to undergraduate students at ECU. This was the most joyful time in my career. I've discovered that chemistry is difficult because teachers only teach one way. It begins to click when a student hears the same info from a different perspective.
Hands on. Using a board to explain concepts and then letting student take a try. Most students learn better by doing.

It is important to understand that, as a science tutor, you should not employ one teaching strategy but tried to incorporate differ methods. A great example would be a bowl of salad. There is such variety and different types of the same thing that goes in a bowl of salad. Teaching is the same way. You have to work with different teaching methods but still able to put it together and have it still looking good. I believe that not every teaching strategy do not always work with every student’s needs. One student might not understand anything he has read, but he might understand through a demonstration activity.

A Little Bit About Me...

I will be doing my student teaching in January of 2011. I am in my final year at Western Governors University.I have taught Sunday School to teens 13-18 for nine years. I am responsible for lesson plans. I have tutored two high school students and one college student each for one semester in various math subjects. All three saw an improvement in their grade.
