I prefer working as a collaborative team with teaching staff/specialists. I believe most of my success comes from continued conversations and ongoing discussions about best practices during staff meetings and professional development workshops. I believe if we can integrate content with cross-curricular themes and skills such as writing across the curriculum in all subjects, not just during the language arts block, All students can access prior knowledge and reframe their thinking when appropriate. Once we establish accountability through state standards, we need to teach one child at a time, at their own level and pace and eliminate lessons that do not move students toward meeting the standards. Through my studies in Environmental issues and Landscape design, I have taken many writing-intensive classes, science courses and geography courses. As a graduate student, I spent significant time writing and focusing on grammatical topics of technical writing. Also, I have several years of experience working with young students as an educator. As a senior in college I worked as an America Reads volunteer in an inner city school system, assisting elementary school students improve their reading skills. After college, I worked for four years as an educator in a natural history museum, teaching school children topics related to ecology, biology and including math and critical thinking.
