Experience Summary
As a literacy-based educator, I have served 12-years as an elementary teacher, including 5 years as a literacy coach/consultant supporting, guiding and modeling on behalf of new, veteran teachers and support staff to improve all students' learning outcomes. I consider myself an excellent communicator and lifelong learner as well as a committed, caring educator.
Teaching Style
I prefer working as a collaborative team with teaching staff/specialists. I believe most of my success comes from continued conversations and ongoing discussions about best practices during staff meetings and professional development workshops. I believe if we can integrate content with cross-curricular themes and skills such as writing across the curriculum in all subjects, not just during the language arts block, All students can access prior knowledge and reframe their thinking when appropriate. Once we establish accountability through state standards, we need to teach one child at a time, at their own level and pace and eliminate lessons that do not move students toward meeting the standards. I use flexible/small groups based on reading readiness levels and interests and change strategies as needed to meet students' needs.
