I went to a school that offered ASL as a class and I took three years of ASL, skipping the first year. I was in the American Sign Language honor society and I graduated with the Laurent Clerc medallion. I have taken 2 semesters of ASL at the college level and frequently interact with the local Deaf community in Lakeland, FL. I aim for all tutoring to be done in the target language, but I recognize that this is unhelpful for many students. Nevertheless, I will start out only using the target language, but will switch to the students' preferred language upon request.
