I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Chemisty with a minor in statistics. As an undergraduate, I tutored middle-schoolers in science and math as a volunteer at a local school. I was recently a substitute teacher, teaching all ages and in areas such as the biological sciences, algebra, calculus and psychology. I currently tutor a college student in mathemtics.
I first discovered my love for teaching in high school. I excelled in many areas and helped my fellow students learn. As I furthered my education, my passion for teaching grew and my style changed. I have molded my favorite, and most effective, professor's techniques into my own hybrid. I use humor and compassion to develop the student's understanding. I try to teach to the student and not at them. I teach study habits that will help them learn more effectively on their own.

I believe in using the differentiated approach to teaching--based upon the seven intelligences. I plan for all lessons being taught, and state the objectives on the board for each lesson. I present the lesson, allowing the students to interact and respond by activating prior knowledge, discussing points and inviting them to ask questions. I like to interject related activities at 20-30 minute intervals to keep their interest up. I also like to provide centering and closing activities.
I taught in private schools in California for 15 years ( 1980-1994). I started as a teacher, then became a Media Specialist, then a Vice Principal and finally a principal. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught grade three for four years. I have taught fifth grade for five years. I have worked as a special education teacher in a moderate-to-severe special day class for two years. I have substitute taught for two years in grades k-12. I am currently an adjunct ESL teacher for a junior college and have taught pre-level I for two years and levels I and II for two years. I have home schooled students at the high school level for two years. I have tutored students in grades 2-8 for five years.
I believe in motivating children to be self learners through independent discovery. I particularly enjoy watching an apathetic student become excited when he/she has grasped a concept that was frustrating for him/her.
