I have worked with many groups of children from grades k-12. My main focus is working with elementary students. Most of my experience is working with grades k-6. My number one field is math. I'm more concerned in helping students with math because this is usually the field were most students are having trouble. I've been helping many children with their math including friends and family members. At the moment I'm working with students from grades k-2 and helping them understand the basics of math. I'm also bilingual and i use to help junior high students understand the basics of Spanish.

I'll be honest. My "students" from the past have told me that during the time when I was actually sitting down and tutoring/working with them, they didn't even notice that they were actually doing the work. What I do when I try to make the "students" learn is to make them see what the books are trying to say to them through what we see through our eyes, in our world, every day. For example, if the book says: 7 - x = 4, I would be telling the child/adult, "Imagine if you had 7 dollars in your hand." I would then ask them, "How many do I need to take away (subtract) for you to have 4 dollars?" When working with the lower kids, I even use the actual objects and lay them on tables in front of me and show to them so they don't have to use their imagination to figure it out. I prefer to instruct by example. I found that with sign watching and repeating work best. I like to work with the person at their pace. Running through the material as fast as possible helps no one. I have spent the last two years in college and have gained my associates degree in ASL. I aspire to become a teacher of ASL at the high school level. I enjoy signing and aim to share my enjoyment with others learning the language. I don't pretend to be perfect at it nor will I expect others to be so. I have used sign language since I was about 13 years of age and it became a passion of mine. I took many American Sign Language classes, to which almost all my professors are Deaf.
