I have a passion for learning, and a love of all types of diversity. I thrive in one-on-one and small group scenarios where I can identify the learning styles and strengths of each child, and cater to their individuality. When I taught swimming one summer at the YMCA, I quickly became the favored instructor for kids aged 3-8, especially those in the extremes: fearful and fearless. The fearful children needed to be coaxed into confidence so that they could feel safe and proud to succeed at their own pace, while the fearless children needed firm but loving boundaries to ground them in safety and discipline so that they could be freed up to push themselves to their full potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching and working with children and feel that it is important to understand that not all students learn the same way. I feel that my college experience has taught me to discover the ways I learn and understand things. In that sense I feel that all students have the potential to succeed if they acknowledge and become aware of their appropriate manner of learning. I think that being patient, compassionate and understanding is a must, which I feel I can bring fourth as a tutor and mentor. I have always drawn and painted. I put myself through college and taught one year at Vandenberg Middle School. I had then fallen in love with Los Olivos. I then went on through the years to open 2 art galleries and a frame shop. I have always taught art on the side such as life drawing, beginning drawing and children's private and adult classes. I continue to teach my own daughter to draw and paint. We attend the Art galleries and The Santa Barbara Art Museum and have a great time. I am 54 and full of teaching information. Conversational. From what I learned in Taiwan little kids are not for me. This is the truth. Kids at about 14 or 15 and older are much preferred. I don't think I am animated enough for younger children...well, not a GROUP of younger children anyway. When it comes to one on one though, it is much different I am sure. I like to give ideas on how to sound out words, remember grammar/math tricks and things like that.
I double majored in Biology and English with a Bachelor of Science degree from a very well known, highly esteemed University in Wisconsin. I went to Taiwan for two months from March-May 2010 and helped teach in a "Bushiban" or cram school to kids aged 6-15. I am currently looking for a full-time job relating to my degree.

I love working with children, especially the ones who have a disability because every child deserves an education not matter what. I have two disabled children myself and they bring me much joy in my life. Every child in this world have the potential to success and discovery their own hidden talents. I too would leran much from each child because they have this determination to never give-up and I will never give-up on a student who is struggling.
I tutored students in Early childhood studies but I also can tutor students in elementary math. I am currently working on my bachelor's degree in Early childhood studies. I will have my bachelor's degree in May 2011 and I am going on to my teahcer credential degree for special needs children. I have tutor at Allan Hancock College. I am currently at Chapman University but I do have a teacher assistant permit.
