A Little Bit About Me...

For more than 20 years I have been an educator and advocate for children and families in multiple settings. I have eight years of volunteer and paid classroom experience with K-12, teaching and tutoring in all curriculum areas (language arts, science, math, art, outdoor education). I have worked extensively with second language learners, and provided informal translation between Spanish speaking parents and English speaking teachers. Due to my journalism training and passion for reading and writing, I have excellent skills in these areas. In addition, I have extensive experience parenting and caring for pre-K children.

As a graduate of Sociology I have gained a lot of knowledge about how society functions. I was interested in this area of study to understand peoples because I have always had compassion for others. I have participated in a 4 unit class where i taught Spanish to 8-11 year old children and it consisted of developing a plan that included songs and dancing to learn Spanish in a fun and animated way. I have done research on homelessness, and had an internship with a non profit that provides social services for those in need. Working closely with this organization has helped me assess peoples needs and use problem solving skills to help individuals in a variety of situations.

I like to try to see what is in a person and see what if I can develop their own style. Some people like to work small, others quite large. Some abstract others detailed and traditional. I like to have students explore many different mediums when they are comfortable and study who they themselves are. We study color,line, shape hue etc.The creative development of someone is a very enriching time if handled properly. People find sculpture fun when taught with wisdom. You see some like to go on to Illustrate and others to be Fine artists. After having 2 Galleries & Frame shop I believe I can help many in many different directions. A Little Bit About Me...

Conversational. From what I learned in Taiwan little kids are not for me. This is the truth. Kids at about 14 or 15 and older are much preferred. I don't think I am animated enough for younger children...well, not a GROUP of younger children anyway. When it comes to one on one though, it is much different I am sure. I like to give ideas on how to sound out words, remember grammar/math tricks and things like that.
I double majored in Biology and English with a Bachelor of Science degree from a very well known, highly esteemed University in Wisconsin. I went to Taiwan for two months from March-May 2010 and helped teach in a "Bushiban" or cram school to kids aged 6-15. I am currently looking for a full-time job relating to my degree.
