More About This Tutor...

I do not have a particular style of teaching. I prefer to talk to the individual I am tutoring and together discover the best way to teach them the subject material. I believe that everyone learns information at a different pace and that some information is easier to process than other information. I believe that individuals should be comfortable while learning in order for them to actually learn. I would never force someone to learn "my way" and would work with them on developing a way that works for both of us. I would also focus on teaching proper study habits so the individuals can apply them and possibly not need a tutor in the future.
I have wanted to help others learn for as long as I can remember; even as early as the fourth grade I was helping my classmates with assignments. I have always loved learning and helping others to learn. I earned a BS in Psychology in coll ... read more

The more that can be discovered by doing is much more beneficial than just reading from a text. I am a patient and caring person who is dedicated to taking the time to make sure that your child receives the attention that he or she needs.
I have wanted to work with kids all my life. I love the way that they learn and think, and how different it is from adults. I studied Biology at Warren Wilson College in hopes of becoming a high school biology teacher. While at college, I did over one hundred hours of service tutoring and mentoring high school and middle school students in Buncombe County. Since graduating in 2009, I decided to take a break from school, and figure out where I wanted to go in ... read more

I have experienced various types of teaching styles while in school. I have learned a long the way every student is different and learns in a different way. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills throughout my educational experience in writing laboratory reports, research papers, and on my own study I, myself conducted. As a high school student, I was very active in extracurricular activities. I participated in the rotary club, volunteering at local soup kitchens. I was also a member of the Newspaper, Quiz Bowl, Robotics Team, soccer and baseball throughout my high school career. Through volunteering at the Boys and Girls club, I was turned out to tutoring students in Algebra and Trigonometry. I spent my Junior and Senior year tutoring students in these areas of mathematics.
I think that in today's public education system, with ever-growing class sizes some students get thrown to the wayside. These students need a more personalized learning plan that offers them head-to-head or small group discussions. I can relate to the child who remains silent because he doesn't think his question is smart enough. Subsequently, that child starts getting left behind little by little until they feel completely lo ... read more

I believe in listening and taking the time to figure out what works well and what doesn’t work for each student. I believe that people have many different learning styles and it is important to get to know the student in order to teach them well. I am very patient and comfortable with a diverse group of people. I also think that in order for people to learn, material must be presented so that the student can internalize the ideas and express the new ideas by reflecting on their life and their experiences. In order for many children to want to learn, ideas and educational materials must fit their identity so that they are not as threatened by them. Education should be fun; growing is a wonderful experience and children as well as adults can be re-awakened by it and motivated to be the best they can be.
