I have a very good grasp of high school and college algebra, and business calculus. I have had to write a master's thesis as well as many papers throughout my graduate and undergraduate career. First, I evaluate the student's comprehension of the subject at issue and how the student achieved his/her conclusion, which gives me an insight as to how to approach teaching the student. The student should be taught in simple terms and provided with the necessary tools to tackle and truly understand the subject. In addition, I feel that it is very important to make the student at ease with asking questions, especially questions they aren't comfortable with asking in class, along with the ability to ensure the student is grasping the information. I have a recent Bachelor's in Accounting, as well as 15+ years of accounting experience in both private and non-profit settings. While working at Thornhill Education Center, I had the opportunity to work with students and help teach GED classes. My main focus was math. I also had the opportunity to teach a level 1 accounting class for community education. I don't think I have really developed a "unique style" by only teaching a year or so. I am a very patient person and I really like to see the "sparkle" in a students eye, when they truly understand something for the 1st time. I like to explain a concept and then give the student a problem and see if they get it. If not, I will go over as many times necessary...until they understand the material.
