In the early sessions I ask my students a lot of questions to figure out their goals, problems, current knowledge and learning style. Based on what I find I build a teaching strategy. I then help them find appropriate materials if they don't already own some. I try a few methods to find the one that works best. If I'm teaching a language I like to combine grammar, vocabulary building exercises, as well as speaking and listening. I give them small quizzes to measure their progress. I help them find fun level-appropriate reading and listening materials. I give them sources online and information on what types of dictionaries are useful. I have a social work background which, in my work has always been integrated with some component of teaching, both in and out of the classroom. I can teach most K-12 subjects, college prep courses and provide tutoring services including assessment and curriculum development.
