I have tutored this before but it has been a while but have passed all certifications to teach 9 thru 12th grade math. Teaching style varies depending on how the student learns best. I have been a high school teacher for the last 6 years. I have recieved high scores 5 years in a row for the End of the year testing that each school must do. I typically begin with the homework assigned by the students teacher, as theses are most often the questions that appear on the tests. Reviewing the practice tests, if available, is also key, as many teachers use only slightly modified versions for the real test. For more advanced students, or those wishing to earn the highest marks, I will design extra problems, both conceptual and mathematic based, to continue to challenge them. This can include something a simple as more problems to work on, or as complex as having the student re-write previous problems to give them a chance to see all the different angles that the concept can be tested. I like starting with the given information and stepping through the processes to solve a problem. Reminding them of, or even showing them, the rules, properties, and examples in the book. I normally try to find the method that best works with each pupil, then highlight on that. I also make sure not to do the work for the student.
