I have taught for 35 years--15 years in elementary,15 years math in secondary, and 5 years instructional specialist and math curriculum. I have many hands on ideas for algebra to help anyone be able to understand the mathematical concepts. I was a math coach in middle school for 4 years. I have worked with all ages of learners including adult learners. I received a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Mathematics from Missouri State University. I have a masters from UMKC in which I worked on the Missouri Assessment Program. I also worked for the Department of Education Secondary and Elementary. I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. When am i ever going to use this in my daily life? Its important to let them see the applications from knowing calculus based formulas to predict market declines (algorithms), to basic math in in inventory work, to understanding complex words and their proper sentence usage so they can understand what rudimentary or neophyte means in a job interview. My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts.
