A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style depends on the person I am working with and the subject matter we are exploring. Everyone learns differently and that needs to be respected and appreciated. My goal is to provide an environment that is comfortable and positive, allowing my client to excel and reach their fullest potential.
My entire background revolves around teaching. I taught in a Preschool while I was working on my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. While there I worked with all ages from Infants to the School Age children. After completing my degree I then went to teach in a public school. A Little Bit About Me...

Over the last 4-6 years I've had to teach coworkers the intricacies of engine technology (basic hydrocarbon breakdown and nitrogen depleting systems) to basic geometry and electrical circuits ( from creating concentric bends in pipe to large scale automated systems). I have not taught english to an 11th grader in a public school, but I make it a fact to learn everyday and spread the knowledge to whomever i come into contact with and is willing to learn. I have recently been studying and implementing hydrogen generating systems and the effects of injecting it into internal combustion engines.
I believe teaching is best learned though practical examples (especially math). because I used to say the same thing that I'm sure that kids today are saying. My first responsibility is the empowerment of my students. I always want my students to have a concrete sense of motivation and what their goals are, even if it's just getting a passing grade. Next, I want my students to believe that they are capable of reaching their goals. My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts. Once the concepts are explained to the student, and the student understands the concepts, repetition begins in order to facilitate retention. Smaller concepts are then tied into larger ones. In the areas of chemistry or math, a variety of problems are introduced, along with a logical method for analyzing how to set each up. The end goal is to achieve an acceptable level of mastery of the subject.
