A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Jacksonville University, I feel I received an excellent education and want to give back to the community. There is not enough emphasis placed on education as it was during my growing up years. I fear that the focus has turned and it is centered on sports not academics. I feel there can be a happy medium reach in which students can get and experience the best of both worlds. A Little Bit About Me...

I started tutoring in high school and all through college. When I tutored high school and middle school (usually math and science) I had a lot of experience with the subject matter. It made it easier to catch the mistakes. During that time I also taught well over a 1000 (no exaggeration) children to swim. Easy subject matter, but lots of different personalities overcoming a sometimes very difficult skill. Now I help the children I live with. One a very bright, yet lazy, 15 year old. I love teaching and working with all children. I find it fascinating that each child's method of learning is different for each and every one. Helping a child discover what their unique way of learning is and helping them use tools to maximize their learning methods to the fullest is truly rewarding.
I have experience at all levels in special education. I am certified in elementary education with a concentration in special education for K-12. I am efficient with basic sign language. I am not fluent, but know roughly 100 signs. I often use sign language as a form of teaching. I find that the visual aid assists in recalling a student's memory, especially with those who have forms of learning disabilities.
