My comments on tutoring Composition : I have a BA in English with a minor in Journalism.

For the past 23 years, I have been working with the Testing Program for the state of North Carolina. I'm currently the English Content Specialist for Grades 3 and 4 Reading. I help to write the End-of-Grade Reading Tests for NC Public Schools. I have taught high school English for one year and second grade for 3 years. I have worked for the Kenly News and continue to write for them periodically.
I like to present information in a way that immediately engages the student and makes him or her want to learn. I have a great sense of humor and like to make learning fun. Changing The World, One Child AT A Time

I was an assistant teacher to a 3rd grade class at Wilson's Mills Elementary from 2001 until 2003. My duties included assisted the teacher and helping the students in a manner to help them learn at their pace. And I also have an 8 year old son who attends River Dell Elementary. I help him on a daily basis with his homework, which includes math, reading and writing. FIrst I figure out what the problem is student's approach to answering a question or studying a concept. I look to see what they know and if I notice something missing in their understanding I'll fill in that "gap" by showing them a more easier or revealing process to answering a question. Before introducing the approach I know that works and I've used because I'm not a genius by nature, but by experience I'll talk to the student about important ideas that they need to know.

Composition is one of my top subjects! I taught 9th and 7th grade writing and speech. We explored biograpahies, research papers, and expository writing.

My classrooms were traditional with twenty to thirty students with a variety of learning and maturity levels. When I tutored students who needed additional help with the end-of-year writing tests, I worked with small groups of four to six, or one-on-one as indicated.
