young and experienced

I believe that in order to fully understand a subject you must able to teach the subject.
I am a recent high school graduate with lots of experience in tutoring high school and elementary students with homework, tests, and projects. I'm also very much capable of helping with cheer-leading as i am very experienced and have been in several competitions. I definitely wouldn't consider myself a strict teacher but do what is necessary to make sure the subject is learned to its fullest.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am what you might call a camp kid. I grew up spending summers in the mountains, camping and hiking and when I grew older, working. The foundation of my leadership experience was built in the forrest. For six summers I worked as an outdoor educator and adventure guide, leading groups of students through week long trips into the natural world. I believe in experience as the greatest teacher. Students are empowered when they learn from their experience and begin to flourish in themselves. At university, my enthusiasm for the outdoors lead me to the arts. I took a particular interest in poetry and short stories and immersed myself in literary life at UCSD. I was often asked to facilitate writing workshops and discussion groups, and in doing so I've found tutoring to come quite naturally to me.

Literature is one of my top subjects!

This is my first time tutoring professionally. However, it is not the first time I help others to learn. Even though I am only a college student (an English major, soon to be studying creative writing as a minor field), I have often volunteered at an elementary school in San Diego, where I worked with younger children. My tasks included administering tests, helping them with their work, and teaching proper study habits. Hopefully, I can take this little bit of experience and help any other students that need it. As an aspiring English professor, I know this will be a wonderful start to a career in teaching and of course, learning!
I'm a firm believer in positive reinforcement. I have dealt with my fair share of teachers who use shame as a motivator, but that only stalls students. Teaching students WHY helps them understand HOW, and it works every time. I'm confident in this method' ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at a small Jesuit Liberal Arts college, earning a Bachelors of Arts and Science in English and Biochemistry, I have come to fully understand the way in which each individual can and does influence the education of others. For more than five years, I volunteered as a religious education teacher for my church. I, though responsible for more than three hundred students on some occasions, discovered my passion for teaching. I developed creative ways to keep teenagers engaged and excited about the material. I took this enthusiasm and utilized it when I began to tutor high school and college students in algebra, calculus, chemistry, biology, and English. I have privately tutored for four years now, and can honestly say that I truly find it a rewarding experience.
I believe that education is essential. Still, I recognize that my education has never been the consequence of my ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My 5 years as a United States Marine established important core values such as tact, integrity, discipline, and commitment. I bring these values with me into the classroom. I believe that the success of a student depends more on their level of commitment than on inherent talent. However, learning must be an enjoyable experience in order for a strong commitment to be made. I am passionate about mathematics and the sciences, and this passion shows in my teaching style. Students recognize this passion, and it makes the learning experience fun. I am patient, open-minded, and innovative; so if a student is struggling with a particular topic, I find an alternative teaching approach which better suits their learning style. The success of my students is gratifying, to both student and teacher alike.

I believe in varying your learning styles. i believe that the child is the center of the learning process. I believe in goals being achieved at the end of the teaching process. I also learned to make a difference in the lives of the students i get in contact with everyday. I believe that the student is capable of learning no matter what.

I am very student-centered. I believe that all students can learn any subject if the teaching style is adapted to the student's learning needs and prior experience. I further believe that learning should be fun for the student and to this end I constantly seek out interesting resources for students. I am patient and expect high achievement from students, but I also believe that high achievement only occurs when education is tailored to the student. I am currently a Master's student in Educational Psychology and I incorporate empirical research data into my method of teaching; I believe in doing what is proven to work to help students achieve!

A Little Bit About Me...

During high school I attended a special program, Health and Medical Occupations Academy, developed for students who wanted a career in the medial field. My high school classes were oriented towards the medical profession. In addition I was required to take anatomy/ physiology, biology, and several nursing classes. I am currently a 2 year medical student. Before entering medical school I worked voluntarily for an orphanage in Mexico. During my time at the orphanage (about 4 years) I participated in tutoring the children, of all ages, with school work and English.
I have worked with small children to adults, teaching English and school subjects. I work best with pre-teens- adults, however have no problem teaching small children. Tutoring is important for me because many times during my educational career I have needed tutoring myself, in regards to language barriers.
