I have helped tutor in high school for the Chemistry AP exam and helped fellow students in college.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a childbirth educator I have developed and taught perinatal classes to adults of all levels of education. Teaching CPR and First Aid classes has given me the opportunity to work with lay and health professionals and tailor the teaching style to meet the needs of the individual student. As a parish nurse I have presented numerous health topics to a variety of church and civic groups.
In teaching childbirth classes as well as CPR and First Aid classes I have utilized lecture, audio-visuals, written materials, and demonstration/return demonstration methods of teaching. I have found that each individual has his or her own learning style and I like to tailor the class to the individual's style as much as possible. I do believe that some type of return demonstration, whether it be verbal, hands-on, or written, is an effective way to assess the student's mastery of the subject.

I do not have a particular style of teaching. I prefer to talk to the individual I am tutoring and together discover the best way to teach them the subject material. I believe that everyone learns information at a different pace and that some information is easier to process than other information. I believe that individuals should be comfortable while learning in order for them to actually learn. I would never force someone to learn "my way" and would work with them on developing a way that works for both of us. One of the most important task in tutoring is building up a students self confidence. Some students have a learning barrier due to their lack of confidence in a given subject, so I believe a part of a tutors job is to build the confidence of a student, allowing them to believe they are able to do whatever they put their mind to.
