I've worked as an engineer in the electronics and electrical engineering industry for 14 years. I have tutored children in math and science for the last 4 years, most recently in high school algebra and geometry. After completing my education at Brigham Young University-Idaho in the spring of 2003, I was hired to work as an aid at the school where I had done my student teaching. During this year, I worked with students in reading and math lab classes which were designed to help students who were struggling to achieve proficient scores on their ISAT's. I then was hired as a teacher and taught for the next two years in the subjects of reading lab, literature, and language arts. I worked with 6th through 8th grade students, and enjoyed each age and the challenges that come with that time in a student's life. Throughout college I had extensive experience working with classmates while we solved math equations and physics problems together. I did volunteer work teaching English to children in Mexico as well as teaching English to college age students in Mexico. I like to first get an idea of what the student knows about the problem.. I find that the more time I spend listening to what they know it naturally turns into what pieces I need to add-in. Unless they came to the session to learn new material that would be a different scenario entirely in which it would depend on the student how I taught. I would have to find out what type of a learner they are. Whether it be a visual learner, if they need examples or are an entirely conceptual type of learner.

I spent 2 years in mexico teaching in spanish. During some of that time i was the teacher for english classes. I graduate this december with my bachelors in physics, experience of working with classmates and helping other students as they helped me gave me years of experience working as a team on homework assignments. I have found through my teaching that there is a motto that works very well in most situations. "Teach in such a way that it is impossible to not understand" basically if one can teach a complex subject in such a way that even a child can understand it then you are successful as a teacher. But with physics that is not always possible. It is all about the person learning not for me to hear myself talk and get through a lesson. All that matters in the end is what the student learned coming out of the the instruction.

I have worked for ten years as a certified surgical technologist. Two years ago I took a position at Eastern Idaho Technical College as a part-time instructor for their surgical technology program. I will graduate this spring with a BA in general studies. I have taken a variety of college classes over the past several years, and this has enabled me to understand a variety of subjects. I had a son with some special needs. I had to help him with his math throughout most of his junior high and high school years. From time to time, other students in my neighborhood have asked for assistance with their school studies. Assisting them when needed is something I have done several times over the years. I am a kid at heart. I understand and relate to children of all ages. I believe that if you are patient with those that are trying to learn, and can find things that they relate to, teaching becomes easier for everyone involved.
