I’m a graduate of Oregon State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business and Marketing Education. I spent most of my working career in business, management and sales. 2009, I returned to my first love, the classroom. I’m currently a substitute teacher in the Washoe County School District, ACE Charter, and some private schools. I hope to soon have a full time teaching position, when a position becomes available. My vast experience of teaching children and young adults hasn’t been in a traditional classroom. I spent 3 years subsituting in the Sacramento USD system while I went to school for my credentials. I then taught in a pull-out RSP program in 4th and 5th grade ,1/2 time and a high school push-out RSP program the rest of the day. I have also taught 3rd grade. I am a very understanding and considerate person and my teaching style reflects that. I have been counseling a week-long church camp in southern California for the past 5 years now and I absolutely love doing it. The ages are 9-12 and I look forward to it every year. I have also worked with older children when I worked at the Boy's and Girl's Club. I have no real teaching style as I have never really taught anyone. I have always helped friends out while we were in school together and I would just have to figure out at what level of knowledge they were having a hard time understanding and start to help them understand what was going on from that point on. Math has always been an achievement of mine. I went to school and started out for an engineering degree, completing all the math including hard calculus. When I got to the university level I thought a business degree would be better as it is used in all types of businesses. So on top of taking hard calc, I took business calc, accounting, finance, and economics classes which all focus on math.

I realize that each student learns differently and thus should be approached differently. My teaching style is to exert patience and positive reinforcement for each style of learning. I believe that tutoring is the missing link in a child's education, and that providing structure and follow up is the best method. I began tutoring as a volunteer in High School.
