A Little Bit About Me...

I was a foster parent for fourteen years in which I spent numerous hours with each child weekly working with them to improve their academic skills. I taught a 4th/5th grade class in the 2006/2007 school year. I graduated with a 3.92 GPA where I excelled as a writer. I currently write the company newsletter at my place of employment. I love to teach and hope to be able to spend more time doing so. My BS is in Human Services.I also have added alcohol and drug studies to that degree. I will be taking a certification test very soon to acquire a RAS drug and alcohol certification. I have been a teacher for 20 years. I love creating a learning environment for all students. My work ethics of hard work, compassion, caring, friendly, and accepting has molded many young minds. All students can learn, but in different ways. I, for one, learn best by watching how something is done. I can read about it, or hear a lecture about it, but seeing it helps me understand the subject. This type of teaching would be done with movies, drawing or acting out the situation. In my teaching, I try to use all methods available to me to help the students learn and to use their creativity. I especially try to get students to work in groups and to share their work with each other. I find that pier groups provide the best help in understanding the subject matter. The classroom should be a learning place of activities and fun.
