My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : Earned an A at Fresno city college

I only bring what helped me earn a 4.0 at fresno state and fresno city college.
I have very little experience in tutoring. I do however, have a B.A chem degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I can bring this experience to help others achieve what I have. I really is not that hard. I just takes lots of time, dedication, and sacrifice. I do have experience working with groups of other students, and have been giving out good study advice for years. However, If time and energy is not dedicated to studies, good results will not follow.

I just graduated high school, and I was a really good student. I never failed any classes at all. I have taken advanced classes since I started middle school.Despite moving about three times, I always kept my school grade up no matter what. Tutoring people is a good way to help and give back to the community. I want to try to help others further their education.

My greatest strength lies with my patience with children and flexibility to see what style of learning enables the child to best master the subject. I desire to lead children in finding the answer which will not only teach them the subject they are learning, but will enable them to reason and find the answers in other classes as well. It is simple to teach a child to memorize but to teach a child to reason will enable him to learn any subject at any age.
During my time in college, I switched to become an educator as I discovered a passion to see the lives of children transformed. During my process of gaining my BS in Physical Education, I worked with many after school programs and taught both elementary and high school during my student teaching. Since college, I have taught and worked with children and youth around the world and currently volunteer in my local community, headi ... read more

I think each student is differnt and so is their learning style. As a teacher I want my student to find their confidence in math which mostly comes when they understand the subject completely. I not only have lot of experience under my belt but since I compelted part of studies in a different school system, I am able to explain one problem in several different ways. They say "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink it". As a teacher it is my job to make them thirsty for math so they won't be able to resist that water of knowledge.
I stated tutoring privately and through the college when I was a student myself to see if teaching was something I wanted to do as a career. I tutored all my college years and realized that this is exactly what I want to wake up for every day. I earned my BS and single subject in Mathematics from Fresno State University. I believe patience and establishing a friendly, respectful connection with students leads to the ideal student/teacher relationship. I enjoy showing students how mathematical concepts and problems can be approached as puzzles, and how one can build upon mastered concepts to tackle ever more challenging puzzles. I receive a great deal of positive feedback from my students and I think a large part of my success stems from understanding the frustration many students have with mathematics, and being able to lead them to a less adversarial relationship with the subject.
I am currently in the Master's program in Mathematics at Fresno State and working as a math tutor/mentor at a Hoover High School. I am a very down to earth person especially when it comes to kids. I always try to lighten up the mood and make learning things interesting and fun. I don't like to dismiss when I see a child having trouble in something. Every person has a different way of learning, I try to cater to each of their needs.
I have tutored children in reading last summer. It was one of the most gratifying things I have done. I worked with English as second language children ranging from ages 5 to 13. We used a lesson plan and several activities to help children in achieving their reading level goals. Also, in my undergrad experience, I excelled in writing and was very good with meeting deadlines.

Teaching students has been a passion of mine as I was graduate student teacher at the University of Denver and UC, Irvine. Everyone has a different learning style and my goal is help students find that learning style. I am very patient, easy going and easy to talk to and encourages students to ask questions. I believe showing students the idea behind the concepts and encourage them to do all the work first and then to review it and show them the appropriate way of getting to the answer. My ultimate goal is give back to others, what I have received from so many different college professors
As a graduate from the University of Denver & having a Ph.D, ABD, from the UC, Irvine, I am very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. My teaching style can be described as casual and comfortable. Students who are having problems understanding certain concepts are better able to grasp difficult ideas when they feel they are in a comfortable environment where they are free to ask questions and discuss their problems openly. My goal is to be informative and helpful, but never intimidating. My style works best with high school students, who describe me as approachable, yet structured.
I began tutoring during my senior year of high school as a favor for a family friend. I soon realized the demand for private tutoring services and began taking it more seriously. While attaining my Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry, I would frequently tutor friends who needed extra assistance. Years of laboratory experience allowed me to gain an understanding of scientific writing styles, and to expand my writing and rese ... read more
