As a fresh graduate I feel the need to be a part of academia. Tutoring is the perfect opportunity for me to strengthen my abilities while simultaneously helping students achieve success. My goal is to be a college professor and tutoring is the first stepping stone. Being able to help students reach their full potential is my passion and my goal in life.
English and education have been a passion of mine for my entire life. My undergraduate experience at the University of Minnesota Morris exacerbated this characteristic. I worked as a camp counselor for 3 summers, and understand that everyone has different learning styles. Personally, I am a visual learner, and I understand that when teaching lessons it is important to incorporate all aspects of learning: touch, sound, visuals, etc. I am energetic and creative and would rather do hands-on activities to drive the lesson home than to sit and memorize lists forever. Since I have a deep understanding of the English language from my Greek studies, I can help students remember the meanings of words with creative mnemonic devices. I have a master's degree in English plus 21 hours. I taught high school English for 21 years. I now teach online and tutor at the Boys and Girls Club. I have expertise in writing, literature, and grammar. When I was an English teacher I taught English 7 - 12. During those years I taught a total of 21 Shakespearean plays to my five classes. I taught middle school English, American Literature, English Literature, and Advanced Placement courses. I used to teach ACT and SAT prep at Sylvan Learning Center.
