Proficiency is acquired with methodical steps.

My approach is simple: assess the student's academic weaknesses, review the strengths, then teach the new material in order to bridge the content or skill. "Scaffolding" is the best means by which to teach so that the student understands the significance of the lesson. Too often, teachers play sage-on-stage, thereby neglecting to connect what the student already knows with the new material.

Need Piano Lessons?

My teaching style is not entirely concrete, for I feel that it depends on the maturity of the student and willingness to learn the subject at hand. I am very patient when I need to be, and my main goal is to simply make sure each student walks away knowing what they needed to learn.

I have been teaching for 12 years. I began teaching after graduating from the University of Berkeley with a Bachelors in Sociology. I taught Reading, Math, and Social Studies as a regular education teacher until 2005. In 2005 I began to teach special education students, and this is currently where I teach.
