I have tutored students in the past tutoring American Sign Language. I have knowledge of Deaf Community and the culture that comes from it. I, myself use American Sign Language due to being hard of hearing. I have found American Sign Language is really easy to learn and use. I have experience in tutoring students in American Sign Language. I have spent time in the Deaf community, learning the different signs, culture, puns, facial expressions for 14 years. I believe that it is best for the student to let me know what needs they have in order for me to help them become more fluent in sign language. Once we have accessed your skills, then we can move on to improve them. I can go through vocabulary with the student. I can give the students signed as well as written tests. I am also willing to accompany the student to deaf socials where they can practice their sign language skills with deaf persons. As a older sibling to a child that had a learning disability, I felt it was my responsiblity to help him achieve a high school diploma. From the age of six years old to his senior year in high school, I tutored my brother in all subjects, from math and english to electives. I believe in individualized teaching. In my sixth grade classroom, I individualized instruction wherever possible. In reading I tested my students and placed them in books at their reading level. I had them write reading summaries and corrected their first drafts. In sixth weeks, I retested and in most instances moved students to a higher level. In my math classes, I tested students and had them begin at the level that they needed to master. If a student could not add, I had him work on his addition skills. I moved students to the next skill level once they had mastered the level that they were working on. Of course, I did group teaching in my classroom, but I individualized wherever possible.
