American Sign Language Tutor

I have taken all the sign language courses at Modesto Junior College (these classes are of the same curriculum as Stanislaus State). I received an "A" on all of my coursework. I then was asked by the sign language instructor at MJC to become her teaching assistant. I was in charge of teaching on my own when the instructor was called away to business. I instructed the students under the direction of the instructor. I tutored the students in the tutoring center at MJC.
I believe that it is best for the student to let me know what needs they have in order for me to help them become more fluent in sign language. Once we have accessed your skills, then we can move on to improve them. I can go through vocabulary with the student. I can give the students signed as well as written tests. A Little Bit About Me...

First of anything, I'm Deaf, but I have a great ability to speak which is very excellent, you wouldn't know I'm Deaf. I do wear a hearing aid. I'm an para professional at Modesto City schools, working at Lakewood and Downey High. I enjoy teaching ASL to hearing students, as well doing one on one with deaf students. My goal is to become an educator to the deaf and adults. I like to teach adults who have Deaf children. My background with deaf children and teens goes far as 30 years. I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my life, I have always felt very strong about achieving a high level of education. As a older sibling to a child that had a learning disability, I felt it was my responsiblity to help him achieve a high school diploma. From the age of six years old to his senior year in high school, I tutored my brother in all subjects, from math and english to electives. From this experience, I was able to help other children improve their level of education as well.
I enjoy teaching and helping all children. I am a strong believer that all children can be taught all subjects, and should be given the opportunity to do just that. I am always willing to teach the child, in the best way that will help them, whether this be through explanation, or through a hands on approach. Children are our future, and should be given the opportunities to learn.
