Experience Summary
I graduated with honors from MacMurray College, majoring in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher Education. I gained certification through the State of Illinois and through ACSI. I have served in the educational setting for over 11 years. I have a vast background in special education and have worked with all kinds of disabilities and behavioral issues. I am quick to adapt lessons to fit students’ individual needs and to present the materials in their learning style. I am confident in teaching a variety of subjects at a variety of levels. I am currently working for Kaplan K-12 in their CAHSEE Prep program both as a teacher and site coordinator.
Teaching Style
I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. As a special education teacher, I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. I also believe children need boundaries set that will consistently be reinforced. Our job is to teach them those boundaries but to do so with compassion. It truly makes my day, when I see a student that finally "gets" what we are discussing or learning. Teaching is a great joy for me.
