I have worked in the educational field for 25 plus years now. My first experience in the profession was in the mid-80's as a private tutor for junior high and high school students. I was also hired by my town and a neighboring town to provide homebound instruction. Subject areas I was responsible for included social sciences, American and world history, mathematics and English. Upon completion of my certification requirements I was employed at a small private school. The school specialized in assisting students with learning and developmental disabilities. I've been teaching the basics to guitar for the past 6 years. I have always approached a teaching lesson as a learning opportunity. Learning is a fundamental skill. If you don't have your base fundamentals, your student will have difficulty advancing. So, I always start with base fundamentals; note taking, studying skills, and comprehension!
