Give Real life experience a try

Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.
Hands on approaches mixed with worldly knowledge, and a very patient style.

I understand the different learning styles and how to appropriately apply them. I enjoy teaching young people and am passionate about their way of discovery into their educational goals and outcomes. I realize that some students become frustrated or distracted; however, I believe once they understand how they learn and how to stay focused, they often achive well above expectations.
As a Clemson graduate, I understand the importance of education. I have written many technical reports and research papers relevant to both of my degrees and my professional career. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style utilizes multiple methods. One of my talents is the ability to recognize when the light goes on and people understand what is being taught. I make a habit of testing those I work with to ensure comprehension not only in theory but in practice as well. Patience, understanding, and communication are paramount in helping others learn. My abilities to relate the subjects taught and provide a comfortable environment where they can ask questions will enable the most efficient learning possible. Not only do you get my time as a tutor I continue to consider different teaching ideas throughout the day as I continue to problem solve and create ideas to assist the student learn better.

My teaching style might be a bit unorthodox but it is something I have acquired from past teachers and tutors. I have not helped or tutored in a while but I believe I have an easy and simple approach to it. When it comes to physics and chemistry, the math can be learned over night, the concepts are most critical. You can't read a problem and interpret the question word for word. You have to find a way to relate it to real life and what you see everyday. A spinning disk becomes a truck tire, a sound device becomes a sub woofer. Things that you can relate to.
I have yet to complete my senior year of studies at the University but I will be done by Spring 2011. I am working towards my first Bachelors Degree, BS in Physics and will continue with school after until I get my MS in Chemical Engineering. Physics and Chemistry have always come easy to me and I know that because of this I can ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

For six years I have enjoyed a "love affair" with teaching. Beginning with two years as an elementary school tutor, I was able to gain experience in teaching all subjects, and specialized in reading for students with learning disabilities. Once I began graduate school I began tutoring undergraduate students in a variety of subjects within the colleges of humanities and social and behavioral science. I also worked as a teaching assistant for two years, during which time I was the primary teacher for 1/3 of each semester. I will be substitute teaching for several Anthropology classes this fall while a professor is out of the country for six weeks.
I am a very versatile tutor who believes in adjusting my own teaching style to fit the particular learning style of my students. I am extremely patient, kind, and creative. My goal is to make learning relevant and relatable, because t ... read more

A teacher should treat their students as consumers. As consumers those students need to have their needs and expectations met. Every student learns differently and expects the instructor to be the expert in the subject matter. Being that expert the instructor should have and show a passion for the subject that makes the students want to know more. Each student is a valuable member of the class and as such has valuable experience and opinions that can enrich the class. The instructor should provide ample opportunity for student questions and discussion. The educator’s role goes beyond delivering the curriculum. The instructor should make the learning relevant to real life experiences. The instructor should provide differentiated instruction, timely feedback, and should aid in the students’ development academically and professionally. Students should be aspired to be quality teachers a ... read more

Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved learning. This passion for learning new things has given me the motivation to earn my Bachelor's degree in Humanities (emphasis: Music) as well as my Master's degree in Comparative studies. Through the writing and publication of my thesis, I have gained valuable experience editing, researching, and proofreading as well as learning analytical and critical thinking skills. As a Humanities major with an emphasis area in Music as well as a French minor, my undergraduate education has prepared me to be able to teach a wide array of subjects.
I love seeing people learn. I love the look in a student's eye when they think about something in a way they've never thought about it before. I love to facilitate that type of learning because it brings me great satisfaction. I especially love to work with children because they are so willing to learn and ... read more

I love watching people learn - seeing the mental light bulbs turn on and glow. My style is one that encourages collaboration and involvement between teacher and student. I strive to not be the sage on the stage, rather the guide on the side. We use exploration, pair-share, short team assignments, simple rewards, and service based learning in my classes. Plato: A mind is not a vessel to fill; it is a fire to be kindled.
I graduated with honors from Univ of Utah and then completed MBA while working full time. I have invested 25 years in business operations management as a career. I have not received anything less than an A- in a math class since 8th grade. I have been adjunct teaching at Salt Lake Community College and LDS Business College since Fall 2003. I have taught mathematics, statistics, and software applications. Course evaluations have always been high, and studen ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As I finish a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in training and development, I realize that I want to continue my formal educational while sharing my love of learning. My prior formal education includes a double bachelor in Honors Comparative Literature and Honors French earned with University Honors. My teaching and tutoring experience began in high school where I was a teaching assistant for the elementary special education classes. In college I was a teaching assistant for the honors department, taught English in Russia and Belgium and tutored friends in French. After college, I found myself “teaching” adults. As a national management trainee for Sears, I facilitated employee career development seminars. I trained military personnel internationally on software, have presented several classes to community organizations and, more formally, substituted fo ... read more

I received my BS in Electrical Engineering in December. I was one of two who graduated under the Honor's Program and maintained a 3.72 GPA. I've been tutoring math ever since my second semester in college and even while I was in high school. I've taken Calculus 3, differential equations, linear algebra, and discrete mathematics and received an A in each of them. I have a great deal of experience along with a sound background in mathematics.
When it comes to math, there is always more than one way to attack the problem at hand and each method appeals to different students. I usually start off with one and I can quickly tell if another would be more effective for each individual since I've noticed everyone has different styles of learning. I do believe everything mathematical can be taught and learned - there are no lost causes when it comes to math.

I went to Dixie State College and studied science courses while working as a drop-in math tutor. I transferred to Utah State University and tutored numerous subjects from 5th grade math to Business Calculus. I tutored for student services at Utah State, an after-school program at North Cache 8-9 Center, and as a private tutor through word of mouth. I always enjoyed working on a one-on-one basis with students because I could give them more attention than their teachers. Despite my business degree, I have an extensive mathematics background and the ability to share this in an effective way with students of all ages. I find it rewarding to work with students and help them grow and achieve the confidence that comes from succeeding in school.

I have a Master of Arts degree in English from Utah State University and have taught EFL overseas and within the US. Recently (from 07-08), I worked as a Math Tutor for challenged fifth graders and also for Kindergarteners part-time at Lincoln Elementary in Layton while my son was in pre-school. I am competent in elementary math and sincerely enjoy helping others to find the inherent beauty of numbers and what they can do.
I love kids - they are often sweet, funny, easily impressed and are a great audience. I know that it is possible to make learning fun through a close, interactive relationship with a student - showing and guiding them through your own discovery of the subject. There have been times when I could feel one of my students learning; it is always a smile-provoking moment and I treasure every one.

A Little Bit About Me...

I completed my BA in English at the University of Utah in two and a half years in order to begin work on my MA in English as quickly as possible. In the half year between completing my BA and beginning my MA, I was a substitute teacher in the Jordan School District in Sandy, UT. I have just finished my first year in the English MA program at Boston College where I was also a tutor at the Connors Family Learning Center. In addition to school and tutoring, I also work as a Kaplan Student Advisor at Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions where I help students with basic questions about Graduate level admissions tests and test-taking strategies. All of my experience with English, History, Composition, test preparation, and ESL has made me a qualified candidate for a variety of teaching/tutoring positions. As a Weber State graduate, I majored in Zoology and minored in Chemistry. Even though science has always been a passion of mine, I am very knowledgeable in math. During my undergraduate studies, I have gained even more experience and improved on my grammatical skills. I had the opportunity to be an Anatomy lab instructor for three semesters. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to tutor my wife with her math. At first, this was a challenge. Math is a subject where one cannot only rely on memory. I found that it's best to be very patient and teach the processes of mathematic principles, rather than just assume the person whom you're tutoring knows these processes.
I never realized exactly why people go into teaching until I gained first hand experience. Teaching is one of the most rewarding things one can do as a profession. When I first started lab instructing, I immedia ... read more
