I have always valued the importance of a quality education and have encouraged friends with no college ambition to start working on their degrees. I am not, however, an elitist. I think every endeavor is a learning experience, but there are basic skills that are necessary to be successful, such as grammar, spelling, and professionalism. My experience in formal teaching is mostly in college-level public speaking and coaching Little League, but I am a proficient and tedious writer. I am also familiar with APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian, and BlueBook formatting styles. A Little Bit About Me...

Following the birth of my third child, I taught at her pre-school and caught the teaching "bug". I then completed a graduate program in Elementary Education, taught for one year in the public school system in Florida and then taught for one year in Alabama. I have the ability to help children struggling in reading to make great strides and as a result, gain the self-confidence to do well in school. I believe in a "hands-on" approach as we all learn better by doing than watching. My goal is for a child to like school, like learning, and know he/she can do anything given a little hard work.

I greatly enjoy seeing the students achieve their learning goals and their yearly progress In 2000, I began to teach special education and teaching special needs children with learning disabilities. I taught grades 3rd-5th in a self-contained, reading, math, and language skills and middle school grades 6th- 8th. After Hurricane Katrina, I moved to Pensacola, Fl. I taught regular ed. 3rd grade, all subjects,special ed., 3rd-5th and SRA reading classes, high school grades 9-12, career ed., health, and reading to behaviorally challenged students. I would categorize my teaching style as that of a demonstrator or personal model. Students learn in so many different ways, but I feel that most everyone benefits by watching and then doing. I like to demonstrate to a student how to do a certain task or problem and then act as a coach to help the student apply what he has learned to accomplish that task on his own. I like to encourage student participation and try to teach students to draw upon previous knowledge to solve problems.
