A Little Bit About Me...

I come into contact with a variety of different students with different areas of interest as a public speaking teacher. My teaching philosophy is to recognize that every student needs, wants, and gets something different from their studies, and it is my job to help them do just that. Rather than conduct a “one size fits all” class, I work with my students individually to guide them in their research and help them get the most out of their speeches. I believe it is important for them to choose topics that interest them as a way to learn about an area they already like and become excited about delivering speeches, something that most students fear.

I believe that all children have the capacity to learn. Educators need to guide them in their endeavors. All children deserve a quality education. They need to learn in an environment that is structured but engaging. Every child has a different learning style and teachers need to be able to adapt their lessons to all children. I strive to learn each child interests and learning style and incorporate these aspects into lessons. I believe a "hands-on" approach is the best way to retain knowledge given all learning styles. If we do it, we will remember it. If learning is considered fun, we want to do it and all subject areas can have an element of fun. Positive reinforcement within a structured environment is my style of classroom management and it works. If a student knows what is expected, knows the consequences, and knows it will be consistent every time, problems decerase.

I believe learning should be fun and creative and that children should have an environment that is friendly and caring to learn in. I think teachers should be patient with their difficulties and take time to give them the one on one attention that they need. I like thematic units and hands on activities. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught all grades K-8 while tutoring after-school programs. Reading, Language Arts and Math. I have worked for the State Department in Mississippi training teachers both in Elementary and High School. Reading has always been the part of teaching that I seemed to have put my whole heart into. I have had some very high reading scores on the national reading test with my students.
Centers, Reading First, Everyday Math, Guided Reading and Phonics. I have a long resume of different programs I have been involved in teaching.
