A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Sonoma State with a BA in English, Single subject emphasis. I am taking a year off before I go back to get my teaching credential in reading. The majority of my classes were geared towards the teaching of reading and writing and I feel confident in my ability to help students improve in those areas. I also worked in a High School writing center and tutored for the past two semesters. I love being around kids and helping them. Currently I live in Tahoe City, but am more than willing to drive to Reno or other areas as well.
I have a fairly easy going personality, but know when to crack down if students are getting off topic or out of hand. I'm very approachable and happy.

I enjoy teaching and see it as one of my gifts. In all of my jobs I've seen it as my goal to help others learn and grow. I believe that everyone is a natural learner, everyone is curious. With my background and degree being in music, I have enjoyed finding creative ways to induce wonder and enthusiasm for learning in my students. I have always accomplished this with the utmost patience, consideration and respect. This last quality in my style (respect of my students) has received much positive feedback throughout my teaching and mentoring. I believe that young people learn as much or possibly more from "what they see" than "what they hear" so that the example the teacher is exhibiting by his presence is often underestimated.
