A Little Bit About Me...

I have a passion for learning as well as sharing my knowledge with others. I obtained a BA in Mathematics and am currently working on MAT in Mathematics. While in college I was part of a tutoring/mentoring program and helped my peers with math. I also had an opportunity to prepare high school students for the Alabama Grad Exam during a summer session with the Upward Bound Program. I currently help children in my community with any problems they may face in mathematics.
Teaching has been a desire of mine since I taught math at a local high school for two years. I am a firm believer in giving accurate, detailed information and being prepared for any questions that someone may have. I don't expect everyone to learn at the same pace, and I make sure that I provide various methods to solving certain problems. I believe that anything is possible, even learning Math.

I love to see the light-bulb go on inside as children grasp material they are struggling with. At first, I teach and watch to see their facial expressions and comprehension in order to figure out what they are struggling with. Then, I approach the topic from a different way, tailored to their specific struggles. I continue to reassess their comprehension and approach the topic from different angles until I break through. Take algebra, for example. Often times, students struggle with having to "show their work." The long process required to get to the answer becomes confusing. I find that a simpler, shorter process is comprehended well. So, I start with this. I make sure that they have mastered the shorter, simpler technique and then, I broaden their understanding so they are able to master the longer process required by their teachers.

I began tutoring when I was a Jr. in high school. I tutored a variety of subjects for grades 5 through 8 during my last two years of high school. During my freshman year of college I tutored a classmate in English Composition I. More recently I tutored a college freshman in Algebra and some of my peers for continuing education credits in Algebra. As a recent graduate, I have learned the importance of education. I have earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. Not only do I contain a strong understanding in those subjects but took several classes in other areas to become a well-rounded individual. A Little Bit About Me...

My parents were both educators and my daughter is a professor, so I can say in all honesty that education has been a most important aspect of my life. I have been very successful as a college instructor and a tax school teacher. I do not have any tutoring experience but with my love of education and my own work ethic I know I can be instrumental in a students academic success.
My teaching style is based on my belief that my purpose is that the student learn the material. If that means backtracking and presenting the material in a different manner or using more examples then that is what I will do. I am a people person and love to meet new people. I think this helps me in my ways of teaching math. I like to understand how the person learns. That's the beautiful thing about math there are so many ways to learn. After understanding the person it is very easy to teach them. Once the person is comfortable and understand that math isn't hard it is smooth sailing from there.
I started tutoring when I was in high school. I have always been good in math. After high school I tutored students in my class and also students in high school. I attended Central Alabama Community College and before going to Troy I helped teach a pre-cal based physics class. Even since I've graduated from Troy I have help tutor younger students.
