Teaching has been a desire of mine since I taught math at a local high school for two years. I am a firm believer in giving accurate, detailed information and being prepared for any questions that someone may have. I love to see the light-bulb go on inside as children grasp material they are struggling with. At first, I teach and watch to see their facial expressions and comprehension in order to figure out what they are struggling with. Then, I approach the topic from a different way, tailored to their specific struggles. I continue to reassess their comprehension and approach the topic from different angles until I break through. Take algebra, for example. Often times, students struggle with having to "show their work." The long process required to get to the answer becomes confusing. I find that a simpler, shorter process is comprehended well. So, I start with this. I make sure that they have mastered the shorter, simpler technique and then, I broaden their understanding so they are able to master the longer process required by their teachers.

I began tutoring when I was a Jr. in high school. I tutored a variety of subjects for grades 5 through 8 during my last two years of high school. This is the way all of my football coaches did things each year, they taught football stance at the beginning of August no matter the player's experience. Some students find this condescending but it usually progresses fast enough to reach their skill level without offending. I have always found that starting at the bottom prevents misunderstanding as you build toward the top.
